Alliance with the University of Notre Dame

Inspired by a common faith and a shared moral purpose, Catholic Charities USA and the University of Notre Dame are working together to utilize cutting-edge academic research and socially innovative techniques to create effective, scalable, and sustainable solutions. Working together, these two institutions look forward to identifying new ways to provide opportunity for those in need and give policy makers the tools to transform our nation's efforts to respond to the needs of those living in poverty.

By combining the efforts of CCUSA’s national network of social service providers and the impact of one of the country’s leading Catholic universities, this alliance has an overarching and ambitious goal of changing the way our nation talks about and addresses the reality of poverty in America.

Wilson Sheehan Lab for Economic Opportunities

The Wilson Sheehan Lab for Economic Opportunities works closely with the Catholic Charities network to measure and examine the effectiveness and scalability of innovative anti-poverty programs. LEO's research will fill a major gap in the existing social science literature, provide proven results to use as a national model, and directly impact and improve the design of public policy to more effectively reduce poverty and promote self-sufficiency.

Partnership with Mendoza College of Business

Each year, a select group of Catholic Charities agencies have the opportunity to attend a week-long boot camp hosted by the Gigot Center for Entrepreneurship, where they develop, refine, and present on business plans for new or existing social ventures. Attendees draw on the expertise of entrepreneurs, learn how to leverage the power of the marketplace to advance their mission, and take away best practices and tips to avoid common pitfalls from leading business management professors.

Church in Action

Through a summer internship program, CCUSA has provided opportunities for Notre Dame students to play a tangible role in our work. A partnership with the university’s Center for Social Concerns has helped students with a passion for service to gain experience in the social services field. And in conjunction with the MBA Alumni Program, Notre Dame alumni are able to give back through their expertise, offering their skills in business as advisers with local Catholic Charities agencies.
